1. Types of Canadian student visas

1.1. Student Visa for CES

The CES student visa for studying in Canada does not require financial proof, but is only available to international students attending CICan-affiliated colleges/universities that participate in the CES program. In particular, the IELTS entry requirement only needs to be above 5.0 with no skill below 4.5.

Therefore, choosing a CES student visa is faster and simpler, but there are not many options for schools.

1.2. Student Visa SDS

The new SDS student visa was applied in 2018 in Vietnam, this type only applies to 4 countries, namely Vietnam, China, India, and the Philippines when coming to study in Canada. This is also a type of visa that does not require financial proof to help support international students with difficult financial conditions.

Two types of visas SDS and CES are for international students after high school, so if you plan to study abroad soon, you will need to apply for a regular visa and prove your finances. Despite having to prove financially troublesome, you can freely choose the school that you love.

2. Documents to be prepared to apply for a Canadian student visa

Included in the documents prepared to apply for a Canadian student visa are divided into two main categories: personal documents and financial documents.

2.1 Personal papers, education level

3 types of documents that you need to have to prepare to apply for a Canadian student visa include:

1 – Health certificate: Regardless of which country you study abroad, a general health certificate is required to ensure the introduction of infectious diseases into the country and reduce the medical burden. The location of the medical examination will be determined by the embassy.

2 – Educational conditions: To be able to study in Canada, your education must be at a Good / Good level to be able to keep up with the programs taught here.

• Acceptance letter from a school in Canada and Degrees, transcripts you already have in Vietnam.
• If your studies are not continuous, you need to go to the Consulate to explain this.

3 – Language level: depends on the level of study you want to follow:

• High School Level: No English proficiency required.
• College level: IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL IBT 71 or higher
• Undergraduate: IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL iBT 79 or higher.
• Graduate level: IELTS 6.7 or TOEFL iBT 90 or higher.

2.2 Financial documents

Proof of financial support depending on the visa category is as follows:

1 – CES, SDS area: Making a Canadian student visa under CES, SDS is simple and does not need to prove financial documents as usual. However, you still need to deliver the documents of a Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC) from Scotiabank worth $10,000 CAD and pay the full tuition fee for the first year of study.

2 – Normal appearance: When studying abroad in the normal category, you need to prepare more financial documents.

• Bank account over 35,000 USD (amount may vary by object and time)
• The above family income is stable, usually the amount is over VND 50,000,000/month/family
• Family assets such as real estate documents, red book, pink book, guarantor's income.

3. IS IT DIFFICULT TO APPLY FOR A CANADA VISA| WHAT IS THE PROFILE AND THE TIME OF APPROVAL?

This is an important and much needed step time preparation so you need to start preparing 3 months in advance. Documents and documents needed to apply for a Canadian student visa include: 

• Financial proof (if needed)
• Transcripts + a translated version of the transcripts
• High School or Middle School Diploma
• College transcript (for graduate level)
• IELTS (Depending on the requirements of each school)
• Essay (if required by school)

• Sample Study Permit Questionnaire: This is a form to declare financial information of parents, relatives in Canada, …
• Sample Custodianship Declaration: For underage international students. Includes 2 different templates, one is for guardians in Canada (makes 2 sets), the other is for parents in Vietnam.

4. Where to apply for a Canadian visa?

There are two ways to apply for a Canadian visa: in person or online. However, whether you apply in person or online, you must get your biometrics at the Visa Application Center.
